Ontario police are continuing their search for the body of Victoria Stafford, a third-grade student, abducted by a young woman in early April. Two suspects were arrested by police, Michael Thomas C.S. Rafferty, 29, and Terry Lynn McClintic, 18. Police believe McClintic allegedly abducted the child from her school near Woodstock, Ontario. McClintic is assisting police in the search for the child's body.
Police recognized the importance of returning the body to parents to effect closure. It's unclear whether the parents of Victoria Stafford were familiar with the two suspects in the child's abduction and murder. The search for the body is continuing in the rural area of Guelph. Police have set up a command post in Fergus, 80 kilometers from Woodstock. Rafferty is alleged to have had an apartment in Guelph, making his connection to the crime strong.
The search for the child's body began 2 days after the arrests of Raffety and McClintic. Rafferty is charged with abduction and murder. McClintic is charged with abduction, assisting in Rafferty's escape and being an accessory to murder. Police believe the 8 year old girl was murdered on the day of her abduction or shortly after, according to provincial documents. Distraught family members are having difficulty accepting her death. The grief-stricken father of the little girl still holds out hope she will be found alive until her body is returned to her family. Grief counsellors have been sent to her school to help her fellow students cope with the news of her death.
