New York (ECN) - This month a new world record will be set. A Tunisian woman is expecting to give birth to 12 babies at the end of the month. This beats the record set earlier this year by American woman Nadya Suleman. Suleman gave birth to eight babies, which created media frenzy. The Tunisian woman’s circumstances are much different, though.
The future mother of 12 is married and keeping her name out of the news. She and her husband decided to undergo fertility treatments after suffering two miscarriages.
The pregnant woman’s husband said he was thrilled to imagine twins and is delighted to welcome even more children into the world.
The babies will reportedly be six boys and six girls. At the end of the month they will be delivered, but the babies’ health could be at risk in such a high number birth. Because of the sheer number of fetuses, the mother will not be carrying the babies to full term. This automatically puts them at risk for many complications and potential health problems. Some doctors are skeptical than any of them will survive the birth.
Despite the grim prognosis, the parents and their family are remaining optimistic. They are looking forward to holding their babies and bringing them into their family.
