
New York (ECN) - Google is celebrating the barcode today, 57 years after its patented inception into the public. On October 7 1952, the patent for this universal product tracker was accepted, three years after it was requested by a duo of American inventors, John Woodland and Bernard Silver. The original design was shaped like a bull's eye of concentric circles.
The Google doodle is one of several special designs that Google employee Dennis Hwang has been overseeing since he joined the company in 2000. He's gradually incorporated the Google logo to help people observe and remember certain events that have happened in history that are important to us today.
Based on the principles of Morse code, the barcode has revolutionized the way we do business today. Google honors this little inconic invention by barcoding the logo on their home page. Google has also reinvented its logo recently to honor Confucious, and Ghandi, the father of modern India.
