American Idol Recap for Wednesday, January 14th

Toronto (ECN) - One would think that having a fourth judge would make the audition process a bit tougher. But so far, the judges are proving otherwise. Only two episodes into the season, it appears that Kara is only there to be Paula's counterpart. True, Kara showed that she has some spunk on Tuesday's show when she bared down on the Bikini Girl (Katrina Darrell), but this had little to do with a judging of talent. In fact, the most "judging" Kara supplied to Katrina was that she had a nice rear end.

Wednesday night's show, featuring contestants from Kansas City, was actually a bit disheartening and makes one wonder if the show is headed in the direction of being just another reality show. On last night's show, we saw two contestants practially beg their way into the Hollywood round after less-than-stellar performances. It also doesn't help that Simon seems to legitimately hate his job now.

Highlights from Wednesday night's show included auditions by Ashley Anderson, singing "Footprints in the Sand" by Leona Lewis as well as Matt Breitzke, a welder from Oklahoma who sang "Aint No Sunshine." We also got to see Michael Castro, brother of last season's popular contestant, Jason. The heartwarming story of the night belonged to contestant Danny Gokey; his wife passed away due to a heart disease only four weeks before the audition. He does an astounding job with singing "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and the judges all gave him a resounding "Welcome to Hollwood!"
