Washington (ECN) - A new study has found that cancer cannot be preventing by taking vitamin C or E supplements.

The study was led by Dr. Howard Sesso of the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA.

The study was geared towards 14,641 male U.S. doctors.

Half took either a dose of vitamin E every other day or placebo, while the second group had either vitamin E every other day or a placebo.

What they found after 8 years had passed was that there were 1,013 cases of prostate cancer.

They discovered no difference in cancer risk between those on the placebo and those on the vitamin supplements.

The study was reported on at a meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, and was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
