Epic Games Head Dumps On Nintendo Wii

The head of Epic Games, Mike Capps give the Nintendo Wii game system a pass, saying that despite the overwhelming popularity, that it does not have staying power.

Says It’s a Fad That Will Pass And Vows Never Design For It

Calgary (eCanadaNow) -  The head of Epic Games, Mike Capps give the Nintendo Wii game system a pass, saying that despite the overwhelming popularity, that it does not have staying power.

“It brings families together, and everyone rushed out to buy one, but then it sits in the corner, and gathers dust,” said the leader of the company that published Gears of War for the competitive system, the Xbox 360.

“It’s a Fad, and we wont be releasing any games designed for the Wii,” said Mr. Capps.

Statistics tend to give some credence to the views of Mr. Capps, though perhaps not as abruptly. Game purchases for the various game systems according to a recent article in the New York Times lists game purchases for each type of video game system.

Game purchases for those people who have bought or purchased the Wii stand at approx 3.7 games per year. Owners of PS3 and Xbox 360 systems both report 4.6 games and 4.7 games per year, respectively.

Only time will tell. Without broad based video title support, the Wii may indeed just be a passing fancy, but at its current popularity, it is an interesting question.  Will companies that swear they will not produce titles for the Wii fall into line?

Or will the dearth and lack of titles eventually catch up, and the Wii pass into history?
