Los Angeles (ENC) - The actress Farrah Fawcett was admitted to the Los Angeles hospital on Thursday. The 62-year-old former star of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ has been fighting anal cancer for just about three years. She has been in the hospital for a few days and was said to be unconscious and in critical condition but stable.
Farrah Fawcett was born in Texas and has had severe health issues during her life since the peak of her career, including substance abuse. In September 2006, she was diagnosed with cancer. Only four months later, she had announced herself that she was cancer free, only to have it return just months later in May 2007. Her body has been deteriorating ever since.
She has undergone both chemotherapy and aggressive treatments, including traveling to Germany. This is where she received alternative treatments while documenting her experiences. She was able to have stem cell treatments, which are not yet approved for use in the United States. This kind of treatment is what led her to Germany. She shared this footage with entertainment television in the early part of 2008.
Farrah Fawcett’s fame grew quickly after posing for a pin-up poster in a flirty red bathing suit. She was cast by TV producer Aaron spelling for ‘Charlie’s Angels’ where she played Jill Munroe, the beautiful and blonde undercover detective. She starred alongside Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson. Even though Fawcett was the top attraction of the show, she quit at the end of the very first season. She was seen as a sex-symbol and tried to downplay this with different roles in the 1980s. She earned critical acclaim for performance in 1984 for ‘The Burning Bed’ when she played a domestic violence survivor. In this role, she received the first of three Emmy nominations.
For the past few years, Farrah Fawcett has fought hard against her battle with cancer, and said that she would never give up. She is now surrounded by her loved ones; long term partner Ryan O’Neal and son Redmond.
