The funeral of the 1970’s sex icon Farrah Fawcett has been set for Tuesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Los Angeles. This follows the three year battle with anal cancer that she had been fighting, where the star had produced a reality T.V. series documenting the struggles that the she was going through.
In 1969 she would arrive in Hollywood from the University of Texas, within a few years Fawcett would become one of the many faces of the show Charlie’s Angels where she would become an international sex symbol. After leaving the show, she would appear in movies such as the Cannon Ball Run, Logans Run, Saturn 3 and the Burning Bed. Her role as an abused house wife in the Burning Bed in 1984 would bring her favorable praise from the critics, yet it was not enough to propel her to the level of success that she enjoyed when she was on Charlie’s Angeles. For millions of people around the world she will always be remembered for her 1976 swimsuit poster that became popular among many teenagers at the time. In 1979 Fawcett started dating the actor Ryan O’Neal in that time the two would have a son and O’Neal would continue to remain a part of her life until the very end.
When you look at this event one thing is clear, even though Fawcett was never able to repeat the level of success that she had in the 1970’s the fact of the matter is that she was beloved by her friends as well as many loyal fans. In lots of ways this is the true sign of success that her career and life underscore, one that was marked by compassion as well as persistence in the face of adversity regardless of what is happening. Ultimately this is the legacy that Farrah Fawcett is leaving behind.
