Patrick Swayze's "The Beast" Not Scheduled to Return

Patrick Swayze's The Beast Gets Canned

Los Angeles (ECN) - As television networks plan for the perfect fall lineup, fans across the country can only wait and hope to see if their favorite shows will make it for another season. For some, the news is good. For others, the outcome is not so positive.

Such is the case for fans of "The Beast." This A&E drama featured Patrick Swayze, who played a hard-edged FBI agent. The show's first season did not perform as well as hoped, but it was clear that many of the actors and fans expected the show to be renewed for a second go. Several of the actors kept their schedules cleared for the possibility of renewal and fans had been optimistic.

However, when A&E released its fall lineup, "The Beast" was glaringly missing. Most speculation suggests that the show was axed due to Swayze's worsening health, and concerns that Swayze would not be able to fulfill his duties as a lead of the show. Even during the filming of season one, Swayze was battling pancreatic cancer, undergoing various treatments that made it hard for the actor to work.

With all this, completion of season two would be difficult, though A&E has not released any official word.
