Record Labels Reject Qtrax Claims
Posted on: 29-01-2008

Qtrax spoke to the media last week claiming to have deals in place with the top four music companies to share their libraries of songs on the Internet, and make them available for download. There is only one small problem.

New York (eCanadaNow) - Qtrax spoke to the media last week claiming to have deals in place with the top four music companies to share their libraries of songs on the Internet, and make them available for download.  There is only one small problem.

All four major Record Companies deny there is any such deal in place.

Spokesmen from Sony/BMG, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music group spoke out on Monday to refute the claims being made by Qtrax.  Various temporary agreements have been in place in the past while Qtrax tested its system, but all of these temporary agreements expired in 2007, and are currently void.

“We can certify that Sony/BMG has not entered into a deal with Qtrax for its music download and ad supported service,” said a Sony BMG spokesman Monday Afternoon.  Sony BMG is a joint entertainment company made up of Bertelsmann AG and Sony Corporation.

Multiple sources in the music industry reveal that Qtrax has been premature in its claims of existing deals.  The previous deals Qtrax has with each company were for testing and experimental in nature, and did not include the free ad-supported model that Qtrax is now touting.

Following its claims regarding these record company label agreements, Warner Music was the first to deny any such agreement.  Warner came out on Sunday and publicly denied any such deal.

The other three major labels quickly joined suit on Monday, revealing no such deals exist.
