Hollywood (eCanadaNow) - News has been released that is sure to excite any Lord of the Rings fan.  It has been confirmed that Sir Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf in the upcoming rilm, The Hobbit, as well as it sequel.

News about The Hobbit and its sequel is coming out more and more rapidly as it was confirmed just days ago that Guillermo del Toro would be directing the two films.

Del Toro has now confirmed that Sir Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf.

It has also been confirmed that Andy Serkis will be coming back to play the role of Gollum / Smeagol.

McKellen told Empire Online "Yes, it's true.  I spoke to Guillermo in the very room that Peter Jackson offered me the part and he confirmed that I would be reprising the role."

He stated "I love playing Gandalf."
