New York (eCanadaNow) - It has been confirmed that Whoopi Goldberg will host the 2008 Tony Awards on June 15.

Whoopi Goldberg, the co-host of The View, announced she will be hosting the awards show.

She stated "I love Broadway and I'm thrilled to be doing anything for the first time.  I'm gonna have a blast."

Goldberg should prove to drive ratings for the awards show quite a bit, which garnered 6.2 million viewers a year ago.

Nominations for the Tonys will be announced on Tuesday.
