Air Pollution In China Reminds Canadians Of Smog Closer To Home

Toronto (ECN) - There has been a lot of attention given to the poor air quality that the athletes from around the world have been enduring in China, and the poor air quality and smog has been televised as part of the games around the world.

But the Canadian Medical Association is quick to point out that Canada has its own type of bad air and smog, and that more attention needs to be paid to correct the problem.

The CMA points to statistics and forecasts that say about 21,000 Canadians will die over the next 12 months from diseases and conditions brought about because of poor air quality and smog.

When people think of Canada, they think of mighty forests, snow and pristine environmental conditions, and most of all, clean air.

More...But many do not realize that along with the cars, trucks and increased industrialization and factories, that the air quality in Canada especially near the big cities has became very poor in areas.

Air pollution costs not only in health costs, but in pollution, it is thought that it will cost Canadians more than $8 billion dollars over the next two years.
