New York (ECN) - Activating brown fat is said to be a new potential weight loss method for adults. The human body needs fat to function properly. According to recent studies brown fat is identified as being good fat and white fat is known as bad fat. Too much white fat can cause health issues such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes; all significant health issues for adults.
According to United States researchers most healthy adults have significant deposits of what is said to be brown fat. Brown fat is said to be a dormant fat stored in adults that when activated by the cold can burn calories and regular fat at a rapid pace.
The research study is hoping to discover a way to activate the brown fat allowing people to burn off more calories without additional weight loss methods such as diet and/or exercise typically used to loose weight. This discovery can be an important step towards treatment of obesity and diabetes.
Brown fat is closely related to muscle according to researchers. The studies done on brown fat indicate that the brown fat is activated when the body becomes very cold. The brown fat becomes activated in turn stimulating the white fat which begins to act as a fuel or heater for the body. Once stimulated the body naturally begins to burn the white fat to produce body heat. In turn this triggers a natural fat burning process in the body, contributing to weight loss.
Studies also indicate that a few common factors exist with the presence of brown fat. Obese people, men and the elderly have a lower percentage of brown fat. People with high blood sugar have less amounts of brown fat that do people with standard blood sugar ranges.
According to research it is thought that if brown fat is activated it is estimated that adults may be able to loose up to 9lbs of white fat in their body without increasing exercise or changing diet.
