Washington (eCanadaNow) - According to U.S. health officials, six cases of E. coli poison in the Washington area have been traced back to an Oregon-based meat company.
Throughout King, Island and Clallam Counties six people were sickened by tainted meat, including one child.
The meat was traced back to Interstate Meats of Oregon and the "Northwest Finest" brand and include:
• 16-ounce packages of "Northwest Finest 7% FAT, NATURAL GROUND BEEF." The label bears a UPC code of 752907 600127.
• 16-ounce packages of "Northwest Finest 10% FAT, Organic GROUND BEEF." No UPC code is available.
The beef packages under the alert were distributed the last two weeks in July to supermarkets in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. In Washington State the packages are being sold at Safeway, Fred Meyer and QFC locations.
The meat has been pulled from stores, but consumers are encouraged to check their freezer.
