New York (eCanadaNow) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have come out and warned of the risks associated with artificial turf and lead.
Older artificial turf fields are made out of nylon or nylon/polyethylene blend fibers. As these fields get older and more worn down, they give off high levels of lead.
The high levels of lead let out can lead to health problems for kids and such playing on them.
New turf fields are made of polyethylene fibers which give off far less lead.
The CDC is urging all of these old fields to be tested, and possibly replaced.
