Boston (ECN) - A new study has found that the brains of bullies are wired in such a way that they get a great deal of enjoyment out of seeing other people in pain.
Researchers from the University of Chicago compared the brains of bullies to those of normal kids all between the ages of 16 and 18-years old.
Their brains were monitored using magnetic resonance imaging scans.
They found that in the area of the brain linked to rewards or satisfaction, bullies got satisfaction out of inflicting pain on another person.
This was not the same for those in the normal group who were not bullies.
They tested this by having them watch a video full of violence.
The study was published in the journal Biological Psychology.
