Cancer Risk Doubles Taking Estrogen
New Research Illuminates Added Caution Needed

Chicago (eCanadaNow) - New information continues to be discovered regarding the taking of Estrogen by postmenopausal women.

Many women were prescribed estrogen during the 1980s, and 1990s, and at the short term it appeared that it was an excellent method of treating various conditions associated with menopause.

But in recent years, there have been additional risks involved with taking estrogen, which keep surfacing.  The most recent concern is that women who took the hormone as part of a replacement hormone program have about double the risk of the general public to develop breast cancer.

The new study with these findings was published on Tuesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.  The new study is one of literally dozens that have been done in the last decade that urge caution for any further administration of estrogen.

There are some situations with some women where using estrogen is a good fit, but it is very important that both the patient and the doctor involved be fully aware of the conditions associated with the drug, including increased risks for cancer.

The new and continued research is trying to gain a better handle on the question on when and where to use estrogen, in products such as Premarin, and other estrogen medicine.
