Boston (eCanadaNow) - The Food and Drug Administration has approved the allergy drug Zyrtec-D to be sold over-the-counter to treat allergies in kids and adults.
The allergy medication will work in all adults as well as children aged 12 and older.
Zyrtec-D consists of an antihistamine as well as a nasal decongestant and has been approved since 2001 for use with a prescription.
It treats respiratory allergies such as runny nose, watery eyes, itching or nose, throat, and sneezing, as well as fever.
It is used to reduce the swelling of nasal passages, and also relieves sinus congestion which can occur from allergies.
Common side effects include fatigue and dry mouth.
