Boston (eCanadaNow) - The Food and Drug Administration has come out and stated that they are going to review reports of various side effects of the pill which is supposed to help people quit smoking, Chantix.
The FDA is looking at reports of erratic behavior as well as suicidal thoughts in relation to the drug.
The FDA put out a note to health care professionals stating "A preliminary assessment reveals that many of the cases reflect new-onset of depressed mood, suicidal ideation, and changes in emotion and behavior within days to weeks of initiatiing Chantix treatment."
The FDA is trying to figure out the link between Chantix, which was recent approved, and the apparent side effects it causes in some way.
The FDA has asked Pfizer for additional cases with similar behavior problems with erratic behavior and suicidal thoughts.
They are also looking into the side effect of drowsiness from the drug and how it could impact the ability of a person to drive or operate machinery while on Chantix.
