The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially announced their support of the cholesterol drug Vytorin. ..Washington (ECN) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially announced their support of the cholesterol drug Vytorin.

The regulators have been working to look over a review of a trial involving the controversial cholesterol drug.

With the review now complete, they have announced that there will be no change to the position of the FDA in regards to the drug and its ability to lower cholesterol.

They put out an update on Thursday stating that the drug is more effective at lower cholesterol levels than other similar medicines given on their own.

Vytorin is usually given along with drugs such as Zetia and is designed to be given as a combination.

The FDA review revealed that Vytorin when used with the other drug lowered cholesterol 56% of the time, compared to 39% without Vytorin.
