Washington (ECN) - Health care spending increased once again last year, but not by as much as usual.
In total, $2.2 trillion was spent on health care in 2007, coming out to around $7,400 per person on average.
This is a 6.1% increase over 2006 according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
This level of growth though, even if it seems high, is the lowest level of growth since 1998.
This is due to the rise in generic drugs, among other things in the market.market.
31% was spent on hospitals, while 10% went to drugs, 21% to physicians, and 25% to other services.
The report was released in the journal Health Affairs.
