Washington (ECN) - The House has passed a bill to give control of the tobacco industry to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Henry Waxman, a Democrat from California, managed to pass the House with a vote of 326 - 102 in favor.
The hope is that by giving the FDA power over tobacco, they will be able to cut down on tobacco use across the country.
With this power, the FDA can now monitor tobacco products including ban flavored cigarettes, and other smoking products.
The bill now heads to the Senate, and if passed, is expected to face a President Bush veto.
