Parkinsons Disease Treatment Clouded
Transplanted Cells Seem To Suffer From Continuous Comeback

Some of the newest treatments that were showing promise for Parkinson’s disease might be now cast in further doubt.

New York City (eCanadaNow) - Some of the newest treatments that were showing promise for Parkinson’s disease might be now cast in further doubt.

Some of the new treatment approaches deal with transplanting cells and stem cell therapy.  This has been hoped to be a way of eventually curing the disease.  But there appears to be storm clouds on the horizon regarding this type of therapy.

After initial improvement, some of the treatment therapy used in the new methods are beginning to deteriorate, and show the same problems as cells that were being replaced.  The new information was revealed in a study that is being revealed in the April issue of Nature Medicine magazine.

In the new therapy method, dopamine cells are sometimes taken and transplanted into the patient who suffers from Parkinson’s disease.  This showed early promise of helping with the symptoms of the disease, to make them better.

Symptoms including stiffness, impaired balance, tremors and slowed movement.

This new type of treatment was hoped to have a large impact for the long term, and was the area that a lot of patients really wanted to see success from.

However there is disappointing news now being revealed.

Cells that were transplanted a long time ago, some as long as 14 years ago are beginning to show the same symptoms that they were transplanted to replace.  This is disappointing to many patients, but offers a further glimpse into the disease.

While a disappointment, some researchers are seeing these new developments as merely a new obstacle to overcome.
