Prostate Cancer Screenings Do No Good For Elderly Men

The Preventive Services Task Force has come out and stated that routine prostate cancer screenings do no good for men over the age of 75. ..New York (ECN) - The Preventive Services Task Force has come out and stated that routine prostate cancer screenings do no good for men over the age of 75.

The advisory panel has found that men who are 75-years old receive no benefit from the screenings, as the risks outweigh the benefits.

These risks include "unnecessary worry and side effects of treatments."

Though advocates state that prostate cancer screening save lives, many argue that since it progresses so slow, people die from other things before it does any harm.

Younger men are being urged to consult with their doctors to see what their best course of action is, as they may not need screenings either.

The task force reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
