Skin Cancer Survivors At Greater Risk

New research has linked the development of some various bone proteins and the development of what is referred to as good fat.

Survivors Of Skin Cancer Have Higher Other Cancer Risk

South Carolina- Scientists and researchers have followed survivors of skin cancer for 16 years, and discovered that they are at a higher risk of developing other types of cancer later on.

Researchers from the Medical University of South Carolina, and Johns Hopkins University examined and tracked 769 different patients with skin cancer, of the non-melanoma variety.

They also tracked 18,405 people who were healthy and did not have cancer either of the skin variety or any other types of cancer.

After 16 years, the researchers discovered that people who are long-term survivors of skin cancer have over twice as much chance to develop other cancers of the colon, lung, pancreas, as well as other varieties of cancer.

This is the type of news to give many Americans pause that have had skin cancer in the past, they need to be very aware and monitor their condition for any signs of other invasive type cancers.

The higher cancer rates are the most visible among patients between the ages of 25 and 44; those who seek the sun and get repeatedly sunburned. It has been known for some time now that repeatedly getting sunburned drastically affects the risk of developing skin cancer.

These are considered preliminary findings but they point fairly directly that those people who develop skin cancer need to be on the alert to make sure they monitor their health closely to makes sure that they do not have other types of cancer that develop during their lifetime.
