New York (eCanadaNow) - After a young vibrant teenager passed away a year ago, his parents made a soul searching decision to have his organs donated to others so they may have life.
But in a harsh and cruel reaction, the donated organs have apparently carried deadly Cancer to the four recipients, unbeknownst to the doctors who participated in the organ donation.
Alex Koehne was 15 years old when he passed away a year ago. Doctors believed that he had bacterial meningitis, which despite being a deadly fatal disease would not have prevented his organs from being donated and helping others. But the cause of his death was even more insidious: Cancer.
After the transplants were performed, an autopsy revealed that the organs were filled with the same thing that killed Alex: anaplastic T-cell Lymphoma, which was misdiagnosed.
The patients cannot be identified because of privacy laws, and each of the four patients who received organs were informed. Two of the patients fell ill and died from the cancer, the two that received the liver, and the panaceas.
The two people who received the kidneys from Alex both had the donated kidneys removed, and replaced with other donor kidneys, and both received chemotherapy that the cancer from Alex’s organs caused. As of now both are surviving, but both are at least still alive.
