Los Angeles (ECN) - Dr. Alan Bittner a Beverly Hills, California State, liposuction specialist transformed his patients human fat into motor car fuel, reports Forbes magazine.
Bittner created "lipo-diesel" that filled his own SUV and his girlfriends Lincoln Navigator.
The biofuel is produced by traditional diesel oil in the U.S., but also used sub products of meat from cows and pigs.
In California it is illegal to power vehicles with human medical waste.
In his defense Bittner says he was being environmentally friendly.
"The vast majority of my patients request that I use their fat for fuel -- and I have more fat than I can use," said Bittner. "Not only do they get to lsoe their love handles or chubby belly but they get to take part in saving the earth."
The local medical department is investigating the actions of Dr. Bittner, based on complaints filed by several dozen patients.
