Boston (ECN) - A new study has shown that Viagra may be used to help with the sexual drive of women suffering from depression.
A study on 98 pre-menopausal women who were successfully using antidepressants, was carried out, as antidepressants usually lead to sexual problems.
Women agreed to have sex once each week for 8 weeks, taking a pill before each time. The pill was either Viagra, or a dummy pill.
Each week, 72% of the women taking Viagra had improvement in sexual behavior, while 27% of women reported improvement on the dummy pill..
Viagra helped most by aiding women, allowing them to reach and have an orgasm.
One side effect was that 43% of the women on Viagra reported having headaches, compared to 27% on the placebo pills.
The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on Tuesday.
