Woman On Cape Cod Diagnosed With Extremely Rare Brain Disease

An elderly woman living in Cape Cod, Massachusetts has been diagnosed with an extremely rare brain disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease...Hyannis (ECN) - An elderly woman living in Cape Cod, Massachusetts has been diagnosed with an extremely rare brain disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

She was at the Cape Cod Hospital when she tested for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

As of right now, she poses no risk to the public as the disease is not communicable.  The biggest drawback though is that there is no cure for the disease.

There are around six cases diagnosed in the state of Massachusetts each year, and 200 in the U.S.  The majority are elderly people, and most die within a year.

Symptoms include things related to dementia such as failing memory, behavioral problems, blurred vision, etc.
