Victoria, B.C. (eCanadaNow) - An aboriginal man who was found frozen in a glacier has shown genetic similarities to over 17 people who are now living in the Pacific Northwest.

People currently living in the Yukon, Alaska and British Columbia share common genes and gene sequences with the ancient man found in a glacier in 1999 in Tatshenshini-Alsek Park.

“This is an amazing connection of ancient man to modern living humans, that simply does not happen in archaeology,” said Archaeologist Al Mackie.

Mr. Mackie is one of the leading scientists and researchers working with the frozen ancient man.

A symposium in Victoria was held this last weekend and was focusing on the remains that have come to be known as Kwaday Dan Ts’inchi.

With the genetic markers and new information it is literally possible to trace the linage and decendants of the ancient man.  This is unheard of in the field of archaeology.

The name, Kwaday Dan Ts’inchi is a Native American name.  It means literally Long Ago Person Found, and he is believed to have lived and died sometime between the years 1670 and 1850.

The remains of the ancient man were revealed to the world in 1999 when he was exposed due to the glacier that he died in started to recede.
