Washington (eCanadaNow) - Scientists who were shocked over the weekend when they picked up a series of earthquakes off of central Oregon.

They heard the earthquakes after listening to underwater microphones.  This type of activity usually comes before a volcano.  The strange aspect is that there are not any volcanoes in the area.

Oregon State University has stated that in the last 10 days, they have picked up over 600 earthquakes 150 miles southwest of Newport, Oregon.

The biggest earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4, with two others above 5.0.

Scientists are not sure as of yet why these earthquakes are taking place.

It is believed that it could be due to the faults off Oregon.
