New York - Race car driver Brazilian Helio Castroneves was accused on Thursday on charges of tax evasion to the federal treasury.

A jury investigator in Miami issued the indictment against the 33-year-old driver, who lives in Coral Gables. It was not clear if Castroneves hired the assistance of legal counsel or appear before a court.

Castroneves was accused of conspiracy and six crimes of tax evasion between 1999 and 2004. His sister and laywer also face chargers.

Castroneves won the Indianapolis 500 twice and currently competes in the championship of the Indy Race League (IRL).

He also became famous in 2007 when they won the "Dancing With The Stars".
