New York (ECN) - The New York Yankees have extended their deal with GM Brian Cashman.

Brian Cashman is working to improve the New York Yankees, and will get to continue to do so for quite some time.

He is staying as the GM of the Yankees, as he agreed on Tuesday to a new three-year contract that runs through 2011.

The New York Yankees missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 1993.

Cashman took over as GM of the Yankees back in 1997, but his contract is up in October.

He is now going to resign, and will remain the GM for years to come.
