Toronto (ECN) - Apple has always walked to the beat of its on drum, and its tight reign on the applications available for iPhone users has been no exception. In fact, Apple had expressly forbid iPhone users to use apps that are not already built into the popular tech device, leaving users with limited options for web browsing and podcast downloads. But the technology giant has finally eased up on the policy, adding four third-party browsers available for purchase at the App Store.
However, while the four new options give new variety, they are carefully chosen by Apple. The new additions include Webmate, Incognito, Edge Browser, and Shaking Web. These optional browsers are in fact based on the designs for the iPhone's Safari, using the same Apple webkit and library structure, which makes them only variably different from the preexisting iPhone software.
However, the very idea of having options at all is a welcomed change. The new options range in price from free to $1.99 per download, and each offers its own perk for potential users. Edge Browser allows users more screen space for browsing, but is difficult to navigate. Webmate is popular for its easy use of tabbed browsing, a feature hard to use on the iPhone's Safari. Incognito is well named due to its anonymous browsing technique, which allows users to roam without leaving a trail. Lastly, Shaking Web is popular for the commute, due to its innovative browsing technology which compensates for the bumps and shaking of the road.
