More Canadians Becoming Victims Of Cybercrimes

A new survey commissioned by the Canadian Association of police boards is revealing that one of the new top crimes in Canada is becoming the rise of Cybercrime.

Rate Of Criminal Activity Using Internet Rises Alarmingly

Calgary (eCanadaNow) - A new survey commissioned by the Canadian Association of police boards is revealing that one of the new top crimes in Canada is becoming the rise of Cybercrime.

The average person in Canada is now more likely to be a victim of crime resulting from contact with the Internet or someone from the Internet than other crime activity found on the street, or occurring at home, according to the new survey.

“This type of crime is steadily growing, its not shrinking away,” said the Chairman of the Canadian Association of Police Boards.

Iam Wilms is the Chairman of the Canadian Association of Police Boards, and one of the people responsible for commissioning the new study.

“We are simply not ready to let the Internet become the new crime no-mans-land,” said Chief Wilms. “We need to staff more police officers in areas of Internet concern, and also provide them with proper equipment to stay on task and discover crime,” said Mr. Wilms.

Currently the number of police officers assigned to online and Internet crime remains woefully small across Canada, but as the awareness of such Internet crime rises, so does the support of the public for police efforts to combat and fight it at its source.
