iPhone No Longer A Rogers Exclusive

Bell and TELUS are expected to begin selling the iPhone 3GS by the end of the year.

Toronto (ECN) - Technology is changing the way that everyone is living their daily lives. This means that many of the most popular items are in such high demand that new competitors will enter key markets so that they can be able to increase their profits because of the new must have item. Recent evidence of this would include the new iPhone 3GS, where Rogers Communications is the only seller of the popular smart phone in Canada.

According to the Toronto Star both Bell and TELUS are expected to begin selling the iPhone 3GS by the end of the year.

While this may sound like the two companies have been playing catch up the fact of the matter is that the two companies have been working on upgrading their networks to the standard called HSPA (which would allow them to deliver all the services that iPhone users require). While this may sound exciting the fact of the matter is that there has not been any announcement from Apple. There have also been concerns among analysts that the move into this area for Bell and Telus will cause them to have to play catch up with Rogers Communications. As Amit Kaminer, telecom analyst with Seaboard Group said recently, “Both Telus and Bell have the ability to carry it, but I’m not sure Rogers would have the will to let go of their exclusivity contract. The iPhone is certainly a magnet of subscribers.”

What this shows is that while there has been no official announcement from Apple about what is happening, the fact of the matter is that many other competitors want to begin selling their popular phones to the general public. This means that they can be able to offer lower prices and more services thanks to the increased competition. That being said it is also important to remember that with no confirmation from Apple this could be rumor which has been going around. Either way it would not be surprising to continue to see increase popularity of this phone from consumers, which are sparking many communications companies to begin offering it to the general public to increase their overall profits.
