Toronto (ECN) - This past Tuesday Research in Motion announced their latest BlackBerry Smartphone, one that is expected to rival the newest creations from Apple and Palm. The new BlackBerry Tour 9360 is the latest in 3G technologies from BlackBerry, a formidable opponent in the Smartphone race today. In late 2008 the BlackBerry product lines were hanging on with a market share of 40.4 percent, trying to outdo the 30.1 percent that Apple had garnered. With Research in Motion (RIM) that has half of the smartphone market share for the first quarter of 2009, according to International Data Corps Mobile phone Tracker, the BlackBerry Tour 9360 is sure to make a splash among cell phone users. On top of this, surveys show that people appreciate the BlackBerry’s equal opportunity among cell phone carriers. While Iphone has an exclusive contract with AT&T, a BlackBerry can be found at any cell phone provider in North America, not to mention a Blackberry’s capability to function on any network World Wide. Later this summer the RIM Blackberry Tour 9360 will be available on both the Verizon and Sprint Networks, breaking its pattern of using only one wireless carrier for it’s phones. Sprint and Verizon wanted a phone that would work as well here in the states as Overseas. Similar in design as the BlackBerry bold, with a chrome finish, small frame and weight the new phone will offer all the bells, whistles and more that comes with Smartphones today. Aside from the standard email and social networking abilities, the new BlackBerry Tour 9360 has a 3.2 mega pixel camera with photo and video recording, voice activated dialing and a whole slew of Apps in the BlackBerry App World. In an effort to appeal to a larger demographic than just the corporate buyer that commonly uses a BlackBerry phone, there are new music and video features that will cater to the average consumer. Running in Motion hopes the new BlackBerry Tour will change the face of the Smartphone, with it’s high resolution screen, and two wireless carrier possibilities. |
