Washington (ECN) - Toyota has announced that they are adding solar panels to their Prius hybrid cars.

The solar panels will start to appear in the high-end Prius hybrid models starting next spring.

The solar panels are going to be used to power the air conditioning in the cars, making Toyota the first automobile maker to actually incorporate solar power into a mass produced car.

The original Prius launched in 1997 and has enjoyed major success.
