AT&T spent a total of $6.6 billion, while Verizon Wireless spent $9.6 billion.

Other big names such as T-Mobile, Google, and Sprint did next to nothing, not winniny any licenses in the auction.

Verizon grabbed the biggest piece of the pie as they will use the new spectrum to help with their LTE infrastructure for high-speed data access.

AT&T managed to grab many licenses themselves.

The other winner was Frontier Wireless who gained the E block which will expand their network across the entire U.S.

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said he was confident that this would increase competition in the wireless industry.
