Wii and DS Finish At Top Of Gaming Sales in 2007

The Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii were at the top of the gaming industry throughout 2007, leading the way over rivals such as the Sony PSP in the handheld area, and the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 in the home-console areaBoston (eCanadaNow) - The Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii were at the top of the gaming industry throughout 2007, leading the way over rivals such as the Sony PSP in the handheld area, and the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 in the home-console area.

Nintendo combined with the Wii and DS for sales of over 3.75 million in 2007.

The latest report released by the NPD Group for the gaming industry shows that the Wii has sold 1.35 million consoles in the last month of 2007, December.  This beat out the sales for its biggest competitor, the Xbox 360, which sold 1.26 million units.  The Sony PS3 came in third with 796.600 units.

On the portable front, the DS was the leader for December as it was one of the most successful months of sales in gaming history.  The Nintendo DS sold 2.47 million units in December.  This was over than double that of the PSP which sold around 1.1 million units.

The Sony PS2 also did well in December as the old console sold 1.1 million units.

The biggest selling game was Call of Duty 4 on the Xbox 360 with 1.47 million units sold, just beating out Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii which sold 1.4 million units.
