Bush, Cheney, and a Colonoscopy

On Saturday President Bush will temporarily hand over his duties as Commander in Chief to VP Cheney. Bush is scheduled to have a colonoscopy at Camp David.

Washington (eCanadaNow) - On Saturday President Bush will temporarily hand over his duties as Commander in Chief to VP Cheney. Bush is scheduled to have a colonoscopy at Camp David.

Under the 25th Amendment President Bush will hand over his authority, doing so only for the second time since he has been president.

"This morning at 7:16 a.m., letters from President Bush were faxed to the Speaker of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate," the White House said in a statement.

"These letters informed them of his decision to invoke Section 3 of the 25th Amendment to voluntarily transfer his powers and duties to the Vice President. This transmission transfers his duties, therefore the Vice President is now serving as Acting President."

Colonoscopy is the minimally invasive endoscopic examination of the large colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus.

White House Press Secretary  Tony Snow said results would be available after 48 hours to 72 hours, if not sooner.

Snow says president Bush has had no symptoms but given his age and history there's a "reasonable" chance more polyps could be found. Any polyps would be removed during the procedure.

Snow himself is undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer.
