Boston (eCanadaNow) - An inspector, Edward Marquette, was sent to check on a construction crane on March 4 to make sure it was safe and stable. He reported it passed inspection, only to have it fall and kill 7 people less than two weeks later. He has been arrested.
The Department of Buildings sent inspector Marquette to the crane after a retired contractor stated that it was unstable.
The crane fell to the ground just eleven days later, killing seven people and destroying several buildings in Manhattan.
46-year-old Marquette was arrested on charges of falsifying business records and offering a false instrument for filing.
Investigators stated Marquette never actually inspected the crane, and he made a false entry in his route sheet claiming that he did.
He faces up to four years in prison.
