Washington (ECN) - The mail may no longer be delivered to U.S. homes on Saturdays according to a new rumored move by the United States Postal Service.
The U.S. Postal Service is reportedly trying to cut costs in a variety of ways.
The new proposal is that they will reduce the number of delivery days from six days each week down to only five.
Postmaster General John Potter has asked Congress to allow the number of mail delivery days to be reduced.
Potter stated that the U.S. Postal Service is "in a severe financial crisis."
The feeling is that with more flexibility in mailing days, they could help cut costs drastically.
Basically, the feeling is that if they delivered from Monday through Friday, the could cut into the $2.8 billion deficit from a year ago.
