New York (eCanadaNow) - Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights activist, was arrested on Wednesday along with many others for protesting the acquittal of policemen who shot and killed a black man on his wedding day.
Sharpton and hundreds of protesters stopped rush-hour traffic in New York City on Tuesday.
They protested the act by policemen to shoot the unarmed black man with 50 shots on the day of his wedding.
Since the November 2006 shooting, Sharpton has remained close to the family.
A spokeswoman for Sharpton stated around 190 people were involved.
Last month, a state judge cleared two detectives of manslaughter, as well as a third of reckless endangerment.
The man, 23-year old Sean Bell, was killed by policemen. Bell's fiance and two of his friends who survived the shooting were arrested with Sharpton.
