Washington (eCanadaNow) - Eight months have passed since the horrific shooting at Virginia Tech which left 32 people dead and many more wounded. In perhaps one of the more tasteless stories to come out of this tragedy, photos of two Penn State students dressed up as victims of the Virgina Tech massacre have been circulating the internet promoting anger and disgust.
The images show students wearing Virgina Tech clothing with fake blood and gunshot wounds.
The photos were first uploaded to facebook, the Associated Press reported.
Penn State football player Evan Royster said he feels angry and doesn't understand why someone would make fun of such a tragic event.
"It just kind of makes me mad," the running back said. "I don't get why somebody would make a mockery out of something like this."
Other Penn State students reacted with similar shock and revulsion when shown the available picture.
In an interview with WSLS, one of the students who wore the controversial costumes showed little remorse.
"This is a group of college students who now think it's trendy to be upset about their friends being killed," one of the two Penn State students who wore the costume said. "I don't know what they teach people in Virginia Tech, but at Penn State we don't learn to threaten people with murder to teach them that murdering is wrong."
According to Penn State spokeswoman, Lisa Power, the students have been identified, but their names will not be released.
Powers said disciplining the students would violate their freedom of speech.
Although the students were not disciplined by the school, educators from the University condemned their behaviour in a statement released this week.
"We're appalled that these individuals would display this level of insensitivity and lack of common decency by dressing up in this manner," the statement said. "The fact that one of the individuals is actually from Virginia makes it even more difficult to understand."
