Calgary (eCanadaNow) - Much of the nation is starting to enjoy balmy and good weather and Spring is approaching for much of Canada, Calgary faced a wicked winter snow.
Over 23 centimetres of dense heavy snow was dumped onto the area, breaking a previous 88-year-old record of 15.2 centemetres. The heaviest of the snowfall fell in the Northeast and downtown areas of Calgary.
Warm weather is expected to return today and with it is a fear of flooding due to the heavy recent snowfall. Eyes are watching cautiously the level of water, hoping that there will not be a flood watch or warning necessary.
“We may see a rapid flow of water if it warms up swiftly,” said Jim Bourlon. Mr. Bourlon is the project manager for ServiceMaster, a restoration company that often is called to help clean up after flooding.
Traffic was brought to a halt in many areas of the city with the intense snow that fell Thursday. Transit users had a little bit of an easier commute, but many areas had buses that were delayed or cancelled due to the heavy snow. People who wanted taxicabs also faced a long delay in obtaining service.
