Boston (eCanadaNow) - An earthquake which measured 6.4 hit the area near the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Monday. This is the third earthquake hit in the last 24 hours.
The earthquake hit the region of Kepulauan Mentawai.
It hit at 4:02 a.m. local time at a depth of 21.7 miles.
According to reports many people felt the shaking of the quake as it was certainly big enough to cause some damage.
At 3:36 p.m. local time yesterday, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the same area.
The fear now is that a tsunami could come from the Indian Ocean due to the quakes.
There have yet to be any immediate reports of damages or casualties from the two quakes.
An earlier tsunami warning was lifted, but the fear is still there that one may erupt.
