Toronto (eCanadaNow) - While the setting is serene now, the snow and storm that was announced to hit the Greater Toronto Area at around rush hour is still headed this way.  Up to a total of 10-12 centimetres of snow is expected by days end, and temperatures are forecast to remain near zero.

The overall winds will be picking up as day moves into night, and the drifting and blowing snow are expected to cause white out conditions in many areas around the city.

The high temperature expected on Wednesday is forecast to be –10 degrees C.

This storm is expected to hit with a rush from the Hamilton area, and forecasted to reach Toronto and the greater Toronto area late this morning.

The full effect is forecast for around quitting time, about 5pm this evening.

The month of February is already on record for the greatest amount of snowfall experienced in the second month of the year.

The previous record snowfall for February in Toronto was 66.6 centimetres, and was set in 1950. The month of February has already seen 69.8 centimetres before today, and with more expected will push the record even higher.

The record snowfall promises to make traveling conditions dicey.

Travelers are warned to beware of the wind and snow leading to drastic wind chills.  Citizens are cautioned to travel over the next 48 hours only if necessary, and to be sure and dress warmly, limiting the amount of exposed flesh for fear of frostbite due to the wind chill.
