Washington (eCanadaNow) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday, pushing for peace in the Middle East.
Abbas stated to Cheney during a meeting on Sunday that more needed to be done on the part of the U.S. to support talks to try and end the fighting between Israel and Hamas.
Cheney arrived at Tel-Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport on Saturday in Israel.
The U.S. has been helping the mediator, Egypt, with the talks earlier this month.
Both sides though continue to fight as neither will take away the fact that they have the right to attack the other at any given time.
Abbas has asked Cheney to try and get the Israeli government to accept a cease-fire.
Cheney has stated that it is long overdue for a truce to be reached for peace in the Middle East.
Cheney statd he will work toward a "long-overdue" goal of creating a Palestinian state.
He stated "achieving that vision will require tremendous effort at the negotiating table and painful concessions on both sides."
